Black’s Transfer Ltd. was established in 1964 by sole proprietor David Black. Incorporated in 1973, Black’s Transfer Ltd. was ranked 65th in a list of top 100 New Brunswick businesses in revenue growth by NB Business Magazine, November 1999. An affiliated company, Black’s Reload Ltd., owns the office/warehouse premises. Currently in its 47th year of operation Black’s Transfer Ltd. is a family business with daughter Heather Black in administration and daughter Dale Black-Devost in operations.
The company employs 16 full time drivers plus part time drivers and a full time mechanic, many of which can operate heavy equipment and all of whom are certified forklift operators. There are 5 staff members in the office/dispatch/management, including Dave Black. Drivers/Staff are TDG certified and attend annual safety meetings.
Black’s is a member of C-TPAT, PIP and the Saint John Board of Trade. Dave Black also holds a position with the Transportation Forum and is actively involved in the Atlantic Provinces Transportation Association.
Black’s has been involved in flatbed service since the mid seventies. Commodities moved include, but are not limited to, steel products (plate, structural, rebar, H-pile) heavy equipment, manufacturing machinery, lumber and building supplies and bagged product such as fertilizer and salt. We have extensive experience in over dimensional loads having moved items as wide as 18ft and as long as 90 ft. Our deck fleet consists of two extendable flatbeds, two drop decks and eighteen 48’ & 53’ flatbeds.
Black’s van fleet consists of 6 tridem vans carrying commodities that vary from paper products and insulation to finished construction materials. We also operate 10 chassis capable of handling 20’, 40’, 45’, 48’ and 53’ containers. Black’s possesses operating authority in the Atlantic provinces, Ontario and Quebec and the Eastern Seaboard of the USA.
Black’s warehouse facilities allow for cross docking and currently handle the transfer of products ranging from lumber to fresh produce. Sheltered and secure outside storage is also available.
